Dubai–Hatta Road Sand-dunes (Route 1) This is a comparatively short trip, with its starting point conveniently about 30 minute’s drive from Dubai. The area boasts some of the highest sand-dunes in the region, spread over a wide area and reaching 275m above sea level. It’s an ideal choice for climbing dunes and 4x4 driving – especially if you possess a dune buggy. (Dune buggies – or quad bikes – are available for rent at the destination.)

The rolling red dunes also make this area a special favourite with artists and photographers. Scenes at sunrise and sunset, with the interplay of smooth curves and shadows, are irresistible.
