Wadi Al Qawr (Route 4) As one of the oldest caravan routes from the Arabian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, this route offers many fascinating spots for travellers interested in the UAE’s cultural heritage, scenic beauty, lush oases and rustic architecture. Sitting with the old folk of the area and listening to their tales and reminiscences of adventurous trips along this once-flourishing route will make you eager to visit the wadi.

Some 50 years ago the coast-to-coast trip, which now takes only a few hours, would take several days in Land Rovers or Bedford trucks (see Ronald Codrai’s introduction). The route lost its importance when the new tarmac road was built to carry traffic through Hatta to the Batinah Coast and on to Muscat.

There are two approaches from Madam Roundabout to this route: via Tawi Fili (recommended) or via Jebel Rawdah.
